UNOFFICIAL CONTENT COLLECTION (2019-2022)

This page reflects on the amount of unofficial content that I produced for ALL ELITE WRESTLING (AEW) since its formation back in 2019.  It was an opportunity for me to create some content for AEW when the company was not fully formed yet into the successful wrestling company that it is currently today in 2023.   Some of my work I did originally had been exposed to official AEW stars and officials who would tweet or reshare it out on social media.  That type of success from the early AEW content, would later be the genesis of how I would get involved in producing graphics for the likes of Professional Wrestling, whether it was my one-off production work for OWE when that was in existence, my ongoing relations of producing unofficial work for the National Wrestling Alliance (which can be found on another page of the website), and hopefully overtime with making stuff officially for UK-based promotions.

NOTE: All the unofficial AEW content that was created over the last few years which was displayed on separate pages of the website, they are all combined together into one collection on this particular page.  Those pages are no longer accessible.

"GOLDEN RINGS" MOTION GRAPHIC intro

This project reflects on my love for professional wrestling from childhood to the present day.  All Elite Wrestling is a brand new promotion that was launched at the start of 2019, and after seeing the press conferences and hearing some of the AEW music, I wanted to envision what the motion graphics were going to look like.

So for this project, I decided to produce a 3-minute video featuring my work in 3D animation and give a perspective on what the AEW graphics could look like along with one of the official AEW themes to begin with.

This was a project that introduced me to Blender 2.8 and acknowledging the power and features within the new version of Blender.  Having it put on Twitter and got a number of positive responses from not just fans but also AEW officials/wrestlers who admire the work put into it.

in 2019, a new wrestling promotion named AEW (All Elite Wrestling) was established and continued to be built up from the ground, starting with their first-ever Pay-Per-View Double or Nothing.  This show was to be the start of a brand new era in Professional Wrestling and was being hyped for so many months including match-build up and promoting the events from some of the world’s most leading performers.

As I’m a massive professional wrestling supporter, I wanted to see what the graphical production was going to be like going forward with AEW. Around the time when Double or Nothing was being hyped, less motion-graphic content was not being produced by the brand,
so for me: I thought it would be an opportunity to envision what AEW was going to be. So I produced a stylish 90-second video where it incorporated elements like the promotional music for Double or Nothing and some still imagery of the current wrestlers of AEW.

As the theme was to be casino based, I decided to incorporate the casino elements into the animation such as a roulette table with the actual roulette wheel, slot machine, poker table with chips, deck of cards, and even the Las Vegas sign which signified the venue location of where Double or Nothing was going to be (MGM Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada).   This video is the most successful one ever produced and got major praises by some of the top-class AEW talents, and to have 1000s of viewers on Twitter, 100s of likes and re-tweets, it showed the quality of concept that was produced on this video to help bring awareness to the event, despite it being a un-official promotion.

From recent AEW videos that had a lot of success on Twitter, I wanted to produce another AEW project that could replicate that same success.   In relation to their next big Pay-Per-View ALL OUT which is their signature PPV,

I attempted to create a 3D Industrial-like animation, which includes elements like different pipes, cogs, gauges, and tanks. It was also the first time I produced a video with volumetrics in Blender, which helps to produce this foggy environment as displayed in the video, and it helps to enhance the quality of the glowing materials displayed in the animation. This has been the least successful video in terms of viewership on Twitter but it has been seen and liked by AEW talent.

I would say that this is a good experiment in terms of working with volumetrics and the practice of producing assets that are reusable to create bigger environments.

Back in 2019, ALL ELITE WRESTLING was established as a brand new professional wrestling promotion across the globe, and since it's established, it has created a great deal of publicity in terms of entertainment and sport.  On a few occasions, I have produced unofficial custom made AEW content to hype up the promotion and its upcoming Pay-Per-Views (PPV).   Double or Nothing is one of my favourite PPVs from AEW because of the casino theme it highlights.  Back in 2019, I created a custom made Double or Nothing promo video which generated a great deal of buzz on social media and got praises by the likes of AEW talent, roughly 20,000 views and hundreds of retweets on Twitter alone.

This is a brand new adaption of promoting Double or Nothing again in 2020, where I reused a previous video-idea I created for the I WANT MORE CLOTHING brand and rethemed it into a casino tunnel that viewers can go through.  Throughout the tunnel journey, it shows off an animated roulette walkway that continuously rotates to opposite to different numbers and colours (red to block, change of number) as well as casino themed objects that people observe on the screen.  Some of which are from ideas taken from the 1st Double or Nothing video such as playing cards with AEW talent on them, but with the inclusion of newer symbols and letters to match the talent personas, multi-coloured poker chips (which were objects already created for the 1st video and reused), gold bars, dice, green dollar signs, and even champagne bottles (to highlight the "A little bit of the bubbly" gimmick).

Some original things included in this video was the use of volumetrics to help fade objects from a distance and make colours glow vibrant and energized when being close up (particularly the card symbol arches that make up the tunnel).   Other things to consider was the decision to go with a 1:1 square ratio video size rather than a standard video dimension size (1080p/4k) as social media content uses the 1:1 ratio in a lot of promotional video, and it helps to become universal for when this video is posted for news feeds on such social media outlets like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook etc.  Another reason for the 1:1 ratio was that the square format would fit better within the capacity of a tunnel-animation.

It was a fun project to do and help learn newer techniques in terms of lighting and working with volumes, and it also gives a perspective of problem-solving when it comes to brightening areas further.

Over the years, I’ve produced unofficial custom made video content about ALL ELITE WRESTLING and its upcoming pay-per-view (PPV) events. It starting off in 2019 with their first-ever AEW PPV Double or Nothing. With the reception, I got from the 2019 video (about 20,000 views, hundreds of retweets, and compliments from official AEW talent), that custom animated package alone became the starting point of making more unofficial AEW packages.

So for this year 2021, I was debating whether to continue the yearly tradition and make another unofficial AEW video package for 2021’s Double or Nothing PPV. What I decided to do was ease the workload and make a quick video by reusing existing 3D models from 2020’s Double or Nothing Casino Tunnel video (in my portfolio) along with creating some new models such as a 12-sided casino table, Martini glass with liquid (shaken, not stirred), and a new set of playing cards featuring more of the AEW talent which was the core aspect of this 2021 video package.

The ideas on this video were based around groups as AEW on screen and in storylines started to introduce a lot more trios, groups and factions, and I figured that a game of poker or any other card game will allow the player to hold a set of cards of 4/5. So the idea was to have a deck of cards shuffled up that featured all the talent, break apart into 12 sections (hence the 12 sided casino table), then all the cards that were separated would reveal the group and factions that are represented within AEW.

In terms of visual style, it was still going to be a 3D animated package. The idea was to go for a starfield environment where a lot of casino themed objects were floating and spiralling in space, and the casino table was right in the middle. In terms of post-processing when the animation was rendered out, I had the idea of going with a 1980s retro theme with the VHS overlay, video gridlines, distortion etc. The music used for the package blended well with the visuals as it has some form of vibrance and synthetic elements to it.

I decided to go back to doing the video in landscape and in 4K due to some of the wide shots that had to be covered. There would have been an argument in place to go into the square format again and alter the position for some of those long wide scale shots, but I wanted to keep the idea in mind of just sticking to just one landscape video and not make several editions. There were other things in mind in terms of further animations in the package such as wanting the cards to clash together, to mimic the idea of all the factions going to war with each other just like in the AEW programming, however, time constraints were an issue during production, and this was only meant to be a 1-minute video that would support all social media video upload requirements.

Above all, it was a nice little product to go and to continuously build the unofficial AEW portfolio.
